JERUSALEM, April 9 (Xinhua) -- Israel on Monday released a new travel alert for Egypt's Sinai, urging its citizens to leave "immediately" in the wake of the deadly attacks on Coptic churches in Egypt.

The Counter-Terrorism Bureau, operating under the jurisdiction of the Prime Minister's office, said the warning level for visits to Egypt was set on Level 1, the highest level of warning.

The bureau cited fear of more attacks that might target Israeli tourists in the desert resorts of Sinai.

Level 1 alert for Sinai was already issued on March 27, following battles between Islamic State-linked groups and the Egyptian army in the region.

The alert was released hours after at least 21 people were killed and 59 others injured in an explosion inside a church in the Egyptian Nile delta city of Tanta.

Hours later, over ten people were killed in a second church bombing attack outside St. Mark's Cathedral in the coastal city of Alexandria.

Islamic State group has claimed responsibility for the attacks.
